Information Management
Sara Gomez named Vice Provost for
Information Management and Chief Information Officer
June 23, 2008
Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to tell you that Sara Gomez will become Vice Provost for
Information Management and Chief Information Officer as of July 1, 2008.
I would like to thank the advisory committee, chaired by Vice Provost
Cheryl Cameron, for their work, which included University-wide
consultation.
Sara has been serving as Interim Vice Provost for Information Management
and Chief Information Officer since December, 2006. This position was
created as part of the newly formed Office of Information Management
(OIM), charged with bringing a holistic and collaborative approach to
building the future of the UW's information management and information
systems and also to create a strong UW focus on and priority for
information systems and information management.
As part of her interim responsibilities, Sara was responsible for a
"three-phase" plan, including: * Leading a discovery/assessment phase,
engaging over 100 stakeholders across campus in understanding the
challenges and opportunities in advancing the future of the UW's
information management and administrative systems; * Forming the new OIM
organization and leadership team, structured to support how OIM works
together with the UW community including five new divisions: Business
Applications, Communications and Outreach, Community and Partnership
Development, Enterprise Information Services and Strategic Projects and
Portfolios; and most importantly, * Completing a comprehensive,
long-term strategic "roadmap" involving over 170 people from across all
the schools, colleges and campuses resulting in a strategic framework
designed to move the UW's information management and administrative
systems into the future.
Sara has also been advising the Data Management Committee (DMC), chaired
by Dean Emeritus Mike Eisenberg and whose work has been instrumental in
getting the UW on the right path to defining and developing an
institution-wide approach to data management.
Sara has been with the UW since 1998 and brings over 20 years of
information systems experience in both public and private sectors, in
leading and managing the full range of administrative, operational and
management decision-support functions. Her educational background is in
both computer science and business administration.
Please join me in welcoming Sara Gomez as our Vice Provost/Chief
Information Officer for Information Management.
Sincerely,
Phyllis M. Wise
