Document Imaging and Management System (DIMS) Project
The DIMS Pilot Project was completed fall quarter 2011.
The University of Washington is moving forward with an enterprise
document/content management system (EDMS) initiative focused on the
capture, storage and management of electronic content. The new solution
will support institutional 'green' paperless initiatives while delivering
increased efficiencies for business units.
This initiative is focused on delivering a document/content management
solution that will serve as one component of an integrated system that
includes workflow and business Web applications. Workflow and business Web
applications will be addressed through separate initiatives, integrating
with the EDMS as needed.
This new approach was defined after completing a pilot project with
Nolij
Corporation to test various technologies and determine the best overall
strategy for the UW to pursue on an enterprise scale. Based on the
outcomes of the pilot, the UW decided to change the original project scope
from automating processes involving paper documents to focusing more
narrowly on online storage and management of documents and other content.
Separate initiatives will be defined at the project level to identify
best-of-breed components to address workflow and other business process
automation needs.

EDMS initiative.
