Michele, Facilities Supervisor
Planning and coordinating services.
I started as the Facilities Planner, but am currently the UW-IT Facilities Supervisor. This entails providing internal facilities services to the UW-IT community.
A typical day
Typically, my day consists of planning and coordinating services, which include space management, staff moves, tenant improvement, space reconfigurations, furniture/fixture/equipment purchases and installation. I also work with property management on the building maintenance and any operation issues or concerns.
Career tool box essentials
I use problem-solving, humor, patience, leadership and management skills as well as loyalty, integrity and creativity. At other times, I use my skills in relationship and vendor management, customer service, MS Office suite programs and conflict resolution to get the job done.
I love the UW because
I like the diversity among faculty, staff and students. I appreciate the sense of loyalty staff have here. I love being a part of an institution that has a history of amazing discoveries made through research as well as being challenged with achieving goals I am passionate about—such as providing a great service experience for customers. Finally, I like that our culture challenges us to do our very best every day.
Life/work balance, you say?
I try to live by the saying, “Everything happens for a reason. Surrender to what is, let go of what was, have faith in what will be.” So when I get a free day, I try to make the most of it. My favorite way to enjoy time off is to prepare a picnic basket and bring a beach chair, headphones and music to one of the Pacific Coast beaches in Oregon. Sometimes while I’m there, I’ll pick up a mini stunt kite or soak up the sun. The coast is great for the mild temperatures and for finding quiet, private areas to relax and enjoy the scenery.
You might also catch me enjoying lunch on a work day at Portage Bay—I love their Greens and Grains menu.
