Heidi, Identity & Access Management Specialist
What the title really means
Help others make sense of complexity
My role within UW-IT is providing access management customer support. I consult and assist schools, colleges and business units with managing their access to administrative systems as well as direct application support for some legacy financial systems.
A typical day
I spend a lot of time on the phone and responding to email but I also get to visit customers at their location to provide direct, onsite consultation and support. I’m also learning to be a Technology Dependency Analysis Tool (TDAT) Consultant, serve as planning chief for the UW-IT Unit Response Center (which responds to emergency situations), and a member of the Recognition Committee (which, as the name implies, recognizes excellent work by UW-IT colleagues).
Career tool box essentials
Listening and being supportive and patient are very important in my job. And asking questions to determine how I can provide assistance. Even if I can’t help directly, I try to provide useful information.
I love the UW because
I am constantly inspired by all the cool and amazing things happening on campus, proud and humbled to be among so many world-class contributors. All the history and growth that happens feeds directly into the perpetual flow of students, which in turn continually invigorates, stimulates and challenges the UW community.
It’s a never-ending story with twists and turns and challenges and discoveries … and I get to be a part of it even if only in a small indirect way.
Life/work balance, you say?
When I’m away from work I especially like being by the ocean any time of year. I have a busy family but we love music, cooking and being together. I enjoy searching for new experiences, going on local history tours, finding new dining spots, going to lectures, music performances, meetups, crafts, games, volunteering.
