Computing Infrastructure

Computing Infrastructure provides knowledgeable system design and administration, software engineering, and operational support for academic systems, administrative systems, and research computing. 

This division is responsible for:

  • Application Integration Services. Developing and operating business Web services, enterprise middleware, and best practices for integration architecture and strategy.
  • Applications Engineering. Designing, deploying, and supporting a variety of campus-wide applications and infrastructure, developer tools, and 'internal' applications for UW-IT.
  • Identity and Access Management. Responsibility for enterprise user and application authentication and authorization services, including UW NetIDs, UW Groups, UW Windows Infrastructure, ASTRA access management service, and UW digital certificates for secure UW services and Web sites.
  • Servers and Storage. Designing, implementing, and operating enterprise-level virtual and physical servers, as well as data storage services (storage area networks, network-attached storage, backups, and archiving). Also responsible for overseeing research computing and managed workstations.
