The Pipeline Project in the Center for Experiential Learning (EXP) announces an exciting internship and leadership opportunity for an undergraduate student during the 2009-2010 academic year.
Teachers Without Borders (TWB)-Pipeline Project Intern
At over 59 million, teachers are the largest single group of trained professionals in the world and the key to human welfare. They know who is sick, who is missing, who has been abducted into the sex trade or conscripted into a military gang, who has been orphaned by AIDS, who is achieving and who is not. Teachers Without Borders supports teacher leaders, worldwide, with professional development opportunities and tools that connect them with information and each other so that they may play a more vital role in their communities. Teachers Without Borders focuses on teachers with initiative, who are passionate about their subjects and compassionate towards children.
Intern’s Responsibilities:
Serve as a liaison between Pipeline and TWB
Develop and facilitate an Inner Pipeline Seminar on UW campus
Upload seminar content on TWB’s website (global university)
Conduct monthly TWB orientations on UW campus
Assist with publicizing of TWB’s and Pipeline’s events and opportunities
Initiate a TWB On Campus group
Participate in weekly Pipeline internship/leadership seminar
Benefits:
An opportunity to create and teach a quarterly seminar
Increased knowledge about TWB’s current projects (local and international)
Interact with a large network of educators from all around the world
Receive up to 3 UW internship credits (EDUC 401)
First-hand experience in the areas of experiential learning, higher
education student services, and global education
Receive mentoring, public speaking, and leadership training
Increased socio-cultural awareness of self and others
Increased knowledge of the Seattle Public School district, urban education,
and global education
Peer-to-peer outreach and mentoring
Hands-on experience with K-12 and higher level curriculum planning in the
areas of global education and citizenship
A modest stipend
Requirements:
Currently enrolled as a UW student (open to sophomores, juniors, seniors and grad students)
Past involvement with the Pipeline Project
Demonstrated enthusiasm for K-12 education, outreach, and teacher
development
Interest in enhancing collaboration between the UW, Seattle Public Schools,
and Teachers Without Borders
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Commitment of at least two quarters (6-months); 3 quarter commitment
preferred
Foreign language skills and previous international education experiences
would be a plus
