Frequently Asked Questions about Inner Pipeline
What is “Inner Pipeline”?
Each quarter, Pipeline offers a number of Inner Pipeline seminars that focus on a variety of education-related topics. Requirements include participating in a weekly Pipeline seminar and tutoring for at least 2.5 hours a week in the Seattle Public Schools or community organization. Seminar topics range from exploring the current K-12 world of education to arts in the schools, science, math, literacy in the justice system, and more. How many credits can I receive for an Inner Pipeline seminar?
The number of credits a student receives depends on the number of tutoring hours completed in addition to seminar attendance. All Inner Pipeline seminars are offered through EDUC 401, which are practicum credits. Credit and tutoring requirements are as follows:
- 2 credits: 2.5 hours tutoring/week (at least 20 hours tutoring/quarter)
- 3 credits: 5 hours tutoring/week (at least 40 hours tutoring/quarter)
- 4 credits: 7.5 hours tutoring/week (at least 60 hours tutoring/quarter)
- 5 credits: 10 hours tutoring/week (at least 80 hours tutoring/quarter)
A student may opt to register for 1 credit if it means avoiding an additional registration fee. Students may also register for more than 5 credits.
Where will I tutor?
Each Inner Pipeline seminar is uniquely tailored to address a focused educational topic. Some seminars have a broad range of tutoring placements for you to choose from, while others offer targeted site placements to correspond with your seminar topic. After you register for a seminar, you can browse a list of potential site placements through EXPO, Pipeline’s online registration and site placement system.
How do I sign up for an Inner Pipeline seminar?
You can sign up for a Pipeline seminar via MyUW. Our quarterly seminar offerings are listed are listed on the left sidebar . Once you have enrolled in a seminar via MyUW, please follow the steps outlined on our Inner Pipeline page to sign up for an orientation and get started.
My Inner Pipeline seminar needs an add code. Where can I find this?
Please note that some seminars may require add codes. If an add code is necessary, contact the Pipeline Project to request one. Remember to include which seminar you would like to register for.
Do I have to attend a Pipeline orientation?
All Pipeline tutors need to complete a mandatory Pipeline orientation, except for those students enrolled in the following seminars: Higher Education Tutoring and Mentorship and Literacy in the Criminal Justice System. These exceptions conduct separate orientations relevant to the populations they serve.
When are your orientations and how do I sign up?
You can view orientation dates, times, and locations via our online EXPO system. Once you login, you will be directed to the schedule and can rsvp.
What if I’ve already attended a Pipeline orientation?
If you have attended an orientation in the last 2 years, you do not need to attend another one. You are all set to login to EXPO and browse the site listings.
When is the last day I can enroll in an Inner Pipeline seminar?
We cannot enroll students in Inner Pipeline seminars after the second class session has met. Enrollment after the first class has met is considered on a case-by-case basis.
