Philip Larkin once wrote, “But at bottom poetry, like all art, is inextricably bound up with giving pleasure.” If you are interested in finding the many pleasures poetry has to offer, please join this two-credit introductory seminar. During our time together, we will comb through poems to uncover and share the numerous ways poetry can offer us joy. Then, you will have the opportunity to share your favorite poems with K-5 students in Seattle Public Schools, so that they, too, have a chance to gain pleasure from poetry. Whether you are a long-time lover of creative writing, or are just looking to gain experience in the community, you are welcome to take this seminar, which is activity based and does not require previous writing experience for admission.
