Teachers Without Borders
At this point in history, the world appears to be getting smaller and smaller through the process of globalization (i.e. you can fly around the world in about a day, or eat a mango from across the planet in the middle of winter). As this occurs, there is an increased need for people around the world to be able to communicate and interact with each other in respectful and meaningful ways. Furthermore, many teachers and schools worldwide are struggling to educate their increasingly culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Because the US is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse countries in the world, this seminar aims to use international and local examples to discuss the future of diversity worldwide. The seminar asks: What are the ramifications of the US and other countries not utilizing the linguistic and cultural talents of their diverse students by having bi- and multi-lingual programs in education? How can we learn from and collaborate with teachers internationally to provide a better experience for all children? If you are interested in learning more about cultural and linguistic diversity in the Seattle and global communities, volunteering in local bilingual classrooms, and connecting with teachers globally, this is the seminar for you!
