The Pandemic
An influenza pandemic greeted servicemen in the United States following the Armistice ending the "Great War." This explains why the men off-loading the injured were wearing surgical masks. The view may have been taken at Fort Lewis in Pierce County, Washington. The base was one of the many Army facilities established during this war.
