They work all day under ground by candle light and in the steam and mud....With the steam points they thaw the earth then they pick it to pieces and shovel the earth and rocks into wheelbarrows and out to the bucket to be hoisted into the sluice box. The disagreeable part is that the ground is thawing constantly and the mud falling down on them.
