Document 45: Letter from Lynn Smith, Glenn Gulch, October 29, 1901.


You can't imagine a persons feelings when at this kind of work. Take a pan of dirt, wash it down to about a handful of dirt then it gets exciting and you are afraid to make a miss dip of water and lose part. Then as the colors begin to show up your heart commences to go quicker and quicker until it is finished. Then a big sigh, dry the pan and weigh it out.
