About CFD
What is the CFD?
The Combined Fund Drive (CFD) is the state's workplace giving campaign which provides faculty and staff the opportunity to give to their favorite charities through payroll deduction or a one-time gift. Established in 1984, the CFD offers convenience, choice, and confidentiality.
Employees can support the causes they are most passionate about by choosing from over 2,600 charities in the official state charity guide or by suggesting their own. UW employees generously contributed over $1.84 million last year to local, national, and international charities supporting programs in the arts, environment, health, education, disaster relief, and human services.

If my favorite charity isn't listed, can I still give?
Yes! If you do not see your charity listed on the State CFD site, you may write-it in on your contribution form or or email your suggestion to the UWCFD office at uwcfd@u.washington.edu. Please include the following information with your request:
Charity name
Charity address
Charity phone number
Charity EIN
Charity email address
Your charity will be screened before approval. You will be notified by email when the screening process is completed.
What does the "%" number after the charity name mean?
This is the charity's administrative fee percentage, relative to its fundraising, as reported to the Internal Revenue Service.
Who do I make my check out to?
Please make checks payable to Combined Fund Drive.
Are CFD contributions tax-deductible?
Combined Fund Drive contributions are tax-deductible. Gifts made through payroll deduction will appear on an employee's W-2. This information is also available through Employee Self Service. A donation by personal check is tax-deductible in the year the check is written. A copy of the pledge form is also required by the IRS.
Can I continue to contribute to the CFD upon retirement?
Yes! UWRP and DRS retirees may still give to their favorite charities.
Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) Retirees may give to their favorite charities through monthly deductions from their retirement check. DRS and the Department of Personnel (DOP) are responsible for coordinating this effort through the Washington State Employee Combined Fund Drive (CFD). For more information about the convenient methods of giving, please contact the state CFD office at 888-353-9396, 360-664-6805, or e-mail cfd@dop.wa.gov.
