USER Steering Committee

The USER Steering Committee was instrumental in making the USER Project a success. The Committee set the vision, helped develop the USER approach and guidelines, and provided strategic support and guidance to the Project.

In the Fall of 2003, the USER Steering Committee moved into an expanded role when its membership was appointed to the newly formed Information Technology Advisory Committee (I-TAC). The I-TAC is chaired by Weldon Ihrig, Executive Vice President, and helps prioritize and plan the technology and strategic direction of the University of Washington. With the formation of the I-TAC, there was no longer a need for a separate Steering Committee for the USER Project.

Steering Committee Role

The mission of the USER project is to transform University of Washington support services, enabling our community to be more effective and efficient in carrying out the institution's educational, research, and public service missions.

The role of the USER Steering Committee is to oversee the USER project and provide strategic guidance. The USER-SC is responsible for keeping the project on track with its mission and the guidelines provided by the UIF funding. Major decisions affecting the scope or activities of the project will be put before the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee should provide the leadership and the long-term, institutional perspective required for success.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Represent the institutional interest to the project team.
  • Set the vision and strategic direction for the project.
  • Challenge the project to think and act creatively.
  • Provide top-down support for the project.
  • Resolve major issues affecting project scope or direction.

Steering Committee selection criteria

  1. Size. The committee should include no more than 10 people.

  3. Knowledge. Members should be familiar with the key support issues affecting their school, college, or department.
  4. Perspective. Members should be willing to take a global view.
