USER Application Design Goals
- The goal of the USER Project for each new product is to enable standards-compliant browser(s) that will work consistently across the different computing platforms.
- The goal of design is to balance the highest available level of technology required to support functionality and performance, with consideration to the end users (e.g., administrators, payroll coordinators, PIs, etc).
- Design of USER technical deliverables is based upon the emerging industry standards for world wide web development using dynamic HTML, XML, etc..
- Design direction includes approval by
the USER Steering Committee. The Steering Committee continues to
support the position that the limited
project resources are not diverted to cover the differences in web
browsers and to avoid the long-term costs of dual program code and
maintenance. Although the web browsers standards are starting to
even out, there may continue to be exceptions.
- Purchased software is evaluated for how well it integrates with the UW infrastructure.
