Warren H. Chapman Resident Research Award

Named for Warren H. Chapman, MD, Professor Emeritus, who served as Acting Chairman of the Department of Urology from 1987-1988. This award is determined by faculty vote and is awarded to a urology resident who has demonstrated research excellence during the academic year.

Julian S. Ansell Teaching Award
Kevin A. Ostrowski, MD
Named for Professor Emeritus, Julian S. Ansell, MD, who became Head of the Division of Urology at the University of Washington in 1959, and in 1965 became the first Chairman of the Department of Urology, a position he held until 1987. This award is voted upon by the current urology residents and is awarded to the faculty member considered the most outstanding teacher for the academic year.

Resident as Teacher Award
Justin S. Ahn, MD
Awarded to the resident best demonstrating the following pillars of teaching: Availability, Initiative with Teaching, Knowledge, Inspiration/Role Modeling, and Ability to Communicate. The award is determined by vote of members of the Urology department and educational staff.

The Grady-Fildes Award
Geolani W. Dy, MD
Dually inspired – by the late Dr. Richard Grady’s mission to provide surgical care to under-resourced children in India suffering from bladder exstrophy (BE) – and by the painting, “The Doctor,” by Sir Luke Fildes. This award was introduced in 1996 and is given in recognition of the resident who in the past year has exemplified those honorable traits most associated with medicine: compassion, sound judgment, integrity and drive.
