UW urology residents Wayne Brisbane, MD and Tony Chen, MD, were awarded University of Washington Housestaff Association (UWHA) 2017 Research Awards this month.

The awards provide residents and fellows the opportunity to pursue high quality scholarship during training. Awardees are selected through a competitive peer-review process using a score scale up to a possible 25. Both Dr. Brisbane and Dr. Chen were scored well above the mean of 20.5, presenting strong grant proposals.

Dr. Brisbane, who is a general board member of the UWHA, was awarded for his project “Utilization of wearable digital sensors to improve preoperative risk assessment and optimization in patients undergoing radical cystectomy.”

The UWHA is a non-profit organization working to promote issues important to residents at UW-affiliated hospitals. The association is run on a purely voluntary basis by residents and fellows without faculty appointments.
