The Department of Urology is proud to recognize our outstanding group of 2017 graduates and award winners, who were celebrated at the annual resident dinner in early June for their achievements in teaching, research, and overall contributions to the department.

2017 Award Winners

Warren H. Chapman Resident Research AwardJustin Ahn, MD
Named for Warren H. Chapman, MD, Professor Emeritus, who served as Acting Chairman of the Department of Urology from 1987-1988, the Warren H. Chapman Resident Research Award, by faculty vote, is awarded to a urology resident having demonstrated research excellence during that academic year.

 

Bruce Dalkin, MD

Bruce Dalkin, MD

Julian S. Ansell Teaching Award: Bruce Dalkin, MD
Named for Professor Emeritus Julian S. Ansell, MD, who became Head of the Division of Urology at the University of Washington in 1959, and in 1965 became the first Chairman of the Department of Urology, a position he held until 1987. The award is voted upon by the urology residents and awarded to the faculty member considered the most outstanding teacher for that academic year. The award is not limited to the faculty of the Department of Urology.

Brian Winters, MD

Resident as Teacher Award: Brian Winters, MD
Awarded to the resident best demonstrating the following pillars of teaching: Availability, Initiative with Teaching, Knowledge, Inspiration/Role Modeling, and Ability to Communicate. The award is determined by vote by members of the Urology department and educational staff.

 

 

Brandon Haynes, MD

Brandon Haynes, MD

The Fildes Award: Brandon Haynes, MD
Inspired by the painting The Doctor by Sir Luke Fildes, this award was introduced in 1996 and is given in recognition of the resident who in the past year has exemplified those honorable traits most associated with medicine: compassion, sound judgment, integrity and drive.

 

 

Staff Member of the Year: Judy Connery
Inaugurated in 1995 and voted on by the residents, this award is presented  to the staff person they consider having contributed the most to their education as clinical/teaching support.

The 2016 In-Service Award was presented to Justin Ahn, MD and Shannon Cannon, MD.
