When Vivian Lee was asked to serve on a new diversity committee
at the UW Alumni Association (UWAA), at first she said no. But
fortunately she changed her mind and went on to become a driving
force behind the Multicultural Alumni Partnership (MAP). For
her outstanding efforts on behalf of UWAA, she is this year’s
winner of the association’s Distinguished Service Award.
A retired nurse and health administrator, Lee helped to create
MAP and was a key volunteer in putting together its annual Bridging
the Gap Breakfast. The event honors distinguished alumni of color
and raises scholarship money for students from disadvantaged
backgrounds. Since its founding in 1995, MAP has raised $170,000
for scholarships and honored more than 40 alumni.
Lee’s
volunteer work at the University is not limited to UWAA. She
has served on numerous other campus committees and
has a scholarship named after her in the School of Nursing
because
of her longtime support.
