Institute for Teaching Excellence

The UW Teaching Academy's Institute for Teaching Excellence offers faculty a week-long "best-of-the-best" experience in instructional development and training. Covering the interim period between the Spring and Summer Quarters, the Institute will combine study and work in course development with extensive practice in presentational methods of course content. A team of faculty and staff will serve as program facilitators. Select number of faculty members will be accepted into the program to work on aspects of course development/overhaul, presentation of course materials, use of technology in teaching and much more.

The purpose of the Institute is to allow experienced faculty members an opportunity to work and reflect with colleagues about their teaching methods and goals. The Institute's program changes each year to include the participants in the design and development of topics that are to be covered. A majority of the issues focus on approaches towards teaching that increases students participation in their own learning through active and experiential learning strategies, use of new technologies and improved presentation methods. Participants are to bring course materials for work and use during the conference that they would like to improve on, retool or at times, design a new course.

Set at a beautiful location, the Institute for Teaching Excellence takes place at the Olympic Natural Resources Center, in Forks, WA. The facility is maintained by the College of Forest Resources and the College of Ocean and Fishery Sciences.
