Faculty Fellows Program

The Faculty Fellows Program orients new faculty to the University campus community . The Program is facilitated by a number of campus educators, including those that have received campus-wide teaching awards. Presenters and facilitators actively engage our new faculty members on a number of topics including but not limited to panel discussions with UW students, effective teaching methods and techniques for balancing the demands of successful teaching and research.

Faculty Fellows 2012: Please reserve the dates of September 7-14, 2012 (excludes the weekend).

Eligible participants (tenure-track full, associate, and assistant professors as well as full and senior lecturers with three or five year appointments) are encouraged to participate in the weeklong program as an orientation to the campus. Research faculty will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must send a request to facfells@u.washington.edu.

In order to be considered, departments are required to send an email to facfells@u.washington.edu with the name, appointment title, and email address of their new faculty member(s). Upon verification of eligibility, an invitation will be sent via email only.

New faculty on 9-month appointments, if not already on payroll, will receive the equilavent of one week's pay and are expected to participate fully in the one-week program. Participants will be paid at 50% from September 1-15, 2012 and will receive benefits. Faculty already on payroll at 100% for the September 1-15 payroll period, while eligible to participate in the program, do not receive additional compensation. Research faculty and those with 12-month appointments will not receive compensation.

H-1B Visas

It is essential that we receive early notice of new faculty who will be obtaining H-1B visas. The start date on their visa application should be September 1, 2012 in order to participate and receive compensation (pending eligiblity). Please contact the International Scholars Office at 206-685-8847 for assistance in this process.

For information, contact Christine Sugatan at 206-221-3811 or email facfells@u.washington.edu. Questions regarding payroll must be directed to Judi Gray (jgray@u.washington.edu) at 206-616-7503. New faculty should also contact his/her departmental administrator should there be any pending issues our office is not aware of.

How to Register

Once an email invitation has been received, confirmation of participation is required by registering through an online WebQ survey. The link is found within the email invite. Submission of this form confirms full participation. Please contact the program with any questions. Participants will need his/her UW netid in order to access the online form.
