Advising

Pre-Law Advising

We want to help you achieve your goals.

Pre-law advising is available to all current UW students and UW alumni.

Please note: Our advising services have recently changed and one-on-one appointments are no longer offered. To understand why, please read our recent letter to the UW pre-law community.

The Pre-Law Team consists of four advisers: Peg Cheng, Chanira Reang Sperry and Tim McCoy at the Gateway Center in MGH 171 and Mary Tillotson at the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity Counseling Center in Schmitz 373.

Our mission is to teach students and alumni how to make informed decisions about law school.

We also specialize in working with students traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession: minority students, first-generation college students and/or financially disadvantaged students.

Getting help with pre-law

First, read through this web site and write down any questions you have.

Next, attend the pre-law workshop that best meets your needs at this time. You'll find these workshops will answer most of your questions.

The Exploring Law School workshop is for students/alumni who are exploring the possibility of law school.

The Law School Applications 101 workshop is for students/alumni who are currently applying to law school.

If you have more questions after attending a workshop, email us at plawhelp@uw.edu. Include your student ID # in your email.

Due to time constraints, we do not meet with students for one-to-one appointments or personal statement reviews. Visit the APPLY page for tips on writing personal statements.
