This is very helpful. I wasn't sure about what I wanted to do here, and my adviser helped me a lot, and made me feel comfortable.

My adviser was there when I thought I had nowhere to go.

Aside from being a great resource for information about majors and programs, registration, etc, my adviser gives me concrete advice about study skills and time management. I thought that the study methods I used in high school would apply to college—for the most part, they don't. Having someone take an abstract idea like concentration and make it a more accessible concept is great.

Advising helped me tremendously. I got advice about classes and which were best taken when. I received help and insight. When I had to write my admissions letter to my major, I got instant feedback. I really liked how approachable and straightforward my adviser was. The advising sessions were always very helpful in putting it in perspective. They let me see what I needed to do to accomplish what I wanted and to take the right classes. I don't think I would feel as organized as I do without my adviser. I only wish that I had gone to an adviser sooner!

I really enjoyed the opportunity to talk to an adviser one-on-one about my thoughts concerning my academic plans. It was nice to talk to a person well informed and with a lot of experience with academics at UW. It is easy to get overwhelmed, so it was nice to have a second opinion from someone who had the resources to point me in the right direction. It was also nice to have someone I could get to know and who could get to know me. My adviser helped me look at my learning experience in a new light, and helped me think through my options. This is definitely a resource to take advantage of!

Advising at the UW not only helped me sort out my class schedule for the next quarter, but helped me solidify what exactly I wanted to do throughout my time at the UW, including club activities and studying abroad. When I applied for my major, my adviser helped to calm me down and form my personal statement and really figure out what my educational goals were and the reasons behind them.

I think that advising sessions are something that every student should take advantage of regardless of whether or not they know what they want to major in. I intend on going to nursing school, but I was unaware of all the alternative routes that I could take to accomplish my end goal. And if nothing else, it is comforting to have someone reaffirm that you are taking the right steps and heading in the right direction.

I was confused about certain requirements that needed to be fulfilled and this was laid out to me very clearly. I also had questions about potential classes to take to fulfill these requirements. Overall, the adviser was very calm which helped me because I was worried about my future. The experience was a rather positive one for me.

Undergraduate Advising is so helpful. It is a very useful resource for students. I want new students to know the benefits of utilizing this resource. The advising staff is great at answering questions and leading you in the right direction. It was extremely helpful to go in, and discuss possible majors/minors and come out with information about them, and what I need to do to get there.

I really enjoy this program because it gives students a sense of direction when you feel lost or just confused. The advisers are open people and I feel very at ease and comfortable talking about my concerns and problems. They always try their hardest to help you.

The second year at University can be difficult and is the perfect time to rethink your plan and make sure that you are happy with your intended major(s). All the staff and counselors at the Gateway Center are sympathetic and knowledgeable about many programs. I have always had a great experience there and the advisers have fun learning about new programs I bring up.

The advising I received was not only informational, but comforting as well, and I learned that there was indeed a way to make my philosophy work with all the rules and requirements of a big school like the UW. My academic adviser answered all of my questions, opened up new doors for me, and helped me cement my academic goals by making processes like declaring my major unbelievably easy. I left my Second-Year Advising session reassured and well informed, and am extremely grateful for the service that contacted me and provided the help I didn't even know I needed. Thanks!

At the beginning of my sophomore year, I had no idea what I wanted to major in. My adviser assured me that I wasn't "behind" just because I hadn't chosen a major yet, and that this was normal. The Individualized Second-Year Advising Program helped me narrow down majors and showed me all of the resources available in the specific fields I was interested in.

It is an efficient and easy way to stay organized. It was unique for me because I was not sure on how to plan my next years' class schedules, but after the meeting, I felt like I knew what classes I would take for the next two years!

My adviser was helpful and informative when I met with him for Individualized Second-Year Advising Program. He was resourceful and I received a lot of useful papers full of information. It helped to think about why I'm in school and what I want to work for.

My adviser helped me unpack all of my questions one by one and laid them out in a manner where I was able to just sit back and look at them from a different perspective. We conceptually mapped all of my questions out and I was able to, on my own, redefine and refocus my goals. The advisers at the Gateway Center are extremely helpful and friendly. If you're like me and you want to learn to love your years as an undergraduate, the first step is to take the initiative to come and take advantage of the advising programs that the university has to offer.

I know that I can always make an appointment with or email my adviser if I come across a studying difficulty in a class, have a question about academics, or want to discuss 'why' I am here, taking the classes I am taking, and 'what' it means. My adviser knows how I am different from someone else, and advises me in terms of my interests, my personality, and my goals.

The advisers have so much knowledge and they can share a lot with students. I loved how I got an email for Second-year Advising Program (ISAP) the summer before my second year. I felt like the advisers were there to help me start my second year motivated and on track. I am so grateful that my adviser made me aware of the Human Rights Minor. I never knew that it existed and I took a great class that counts to the minor, because of the information my adviser gave me.

Attending second year advising gave me a direction. I was very unsure of what credits and classes I should be taking and why. After seeing my adviser I was well informed of what I should think about during my experience at UW. My adviser contacted me by phone and email before sophomore year, which really encouraged me to come into the Gateway Center. I strongly encourage incoming students to take advantage of this program that can help give them greater knowledge of opportunities at UW.

I was really impressed at how my adviser listed out with me what my options were and the good and the bad to every situation. The most beneficial part about it was that I was able to weigh out all my options to figure out what major was right for me. I really felt like I was at a small private school with all the attention that I was given. UW is a big school and I would be behind in my education plans if I didn't stop in to meet with my adviser and I am very appreciative for their guidance.

My adviser provides me with tools to DO something about any problems I having studying. And week after week, we can evaluate how well a tip worked, constantly altering study techniques to fit with my learning style and my classes. I've learned that "the plan" changes. I love that in advising, someone sees my progress, helps me analyze mistakes, and witnesses my academic and personal changes and improvements.
