Hello. I am Ann Trail and I am one of the advisers in the Gateway Center. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York and attended Georgetown University, where I earned a B.S. in Chinese. From there I moved to Bloomington, Indiana where I pursued graduate studies in Comparative Literature at Indiana University. While there I had several TA-ships, in French, Chinese, Comparative Literature and in a special summer program similar to Upward Bound. I held FLAS fellowships for two years.
I began my advising career at UW a little over 20 years ago, and after a few years left to be a full-time mother. When my youngest entered school, I came back to the UW to work towards a master's degree in linguistics. I returned to advising in September of 2006 and have been thrilled to discover the work to be even more rewarding than I remembered.
My special areas here in the Gateway Center are foreign languages and pre-medical advising. I also serve on the reinstatement committee and the individualized studies committee. My number one hobby is stepdancing, which is the name for all percussive dance forms originating in the British Isles. (You may have seen Irish stepdancing, American clogging and American tap dance.) I also enjoy reading, yoga, running, playing upright bass, and spending time with my children.
