After graduating from Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, Oregon, I made the important choice of attending the University of Oregon as a Psychology major because I had a strong fascination with abnormal psychology. During college, I took many different and challenging courses from Tai Chi (yes, Tai Chi was challenging) to Political Ideologies to Literary Theory and Criticism, which contributed to my constant indecision of what I wanted to major in. I switched from being a psychology major to a philosophy major, and then thought about becoming a marine biology major, then I switched to being an undeclared major because my mind had wandered into so many cool subjects that I didn't know what to do...and that was okay. However, at that point, I finally decided that I could use a little help from an academic adviser to help me make sense of the mess in my head and my heart. My academic adviser asked the right questions by probing and pushing me to think about my interests. He helped me understand my decision making process. From this session, I was able to figure out that in all of my classes that I took, I really enjoyed writing. I decided that I would major in English. Not only did my adviser help me with this decision, but he also encouraged me to apply for a front desk receptionist position in the advising office. I applied and got the position, but more importantly, from there I developed an interest in advising.
When I'm off campus, I enjoy cooking different ethnic foods, camping, hiking, sea kayaking, reading with my kids, writing poetry, viewing foreign films (Children of Heaven and Baran are two of my favorites -- I have both if you ever want to borrow them!), playing soccer, basketball, tennis, and badminton.
