Into, Through, and Beyond...

The Gateway Center clusters services designed to help students make a successful transition to university life and immerse themselves in its vast world of learning opportunities. At the Gateway Center, students can find academic advising, orientation programs for new students, and freshmen and transfer student learning communities.

The Center's staff also educates students about the wide range of opportunities offered through Undergraduate Academic Affairs, including numerous community outreach, research, and honors programs.

Undergraduate Advising helps students design an overall curriculum, drawing from the programs and opportunities across the entire university. In addition to helping students choose a major and plan their course schedules, advisers work with students to clarify academic as well as personal goals. As educators, advisers emphasize the core skills of critical thinking, decision-making, and the value of broad exposure to a range of different perspectives. The advisers also provide pre-professional advising in a number of areas such as pre-medicine and pre-law.

First Year Programs assists new freshman, transfers, and families as they establish and enrich their relationship with the UW community throughout their first year of enrollment. Activities include quarterly Advising and Orientation sessions, Dawg Daze, and the Freshman and Transfer Interest Group programs.

The Center for Learning and Undergraduate Enrichment (CLUE) is a free evening and late-night academic center designed to support all UW undergraduates, with a strong emphasis on freshmen and transfer students who are enrolled in many of the UW's crucial lower-division courses. The center is open for business Sunday through Thursday evenings from 6:30 pm to midnight, with study activities taking place throughout Mary Gates Hall.

From drop-in, multidisciplinary tutoring at CLUE, to academic achievement courses and one-on-one tutor-mentor relationships for students struggling with the transition to the UW, our aim is to provide high-level academic support for the full range of UW undergraduates, from those who are academically disadvantaged to those who are advanced.
