What are you doing for others? MLKThe University of Washington continues to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and his vision for social justice through a commitment to service and community engagement. In January 2011, there are several ways to get involved:

  • The Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center will host a Service Opportunities Fair. The Fair is an opportunity for the University of Washington students, staff, faculty, and alumni to connect with community partners and learn about opportunities to serve on the King Holiday and beyond.

    When: January 11, 2011 | 3-5 p.m.

  • On the Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service, the UW Jumpstart Program will host a “Preschool Curriculum Materials Party.” Join other UW community members on campus to label books, organize supplies, and compile curriculum materials for Head Start classrooms. Email Mary McNair at mcnaim@uw.edu to sign up.

  • Students engaging in public serviceFor the past five years, the Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center, in conjunction with the United Way of King County, has coordinated a number of service projects for the King Holiday. This year, United Way of King County is coordinating service projects in conjunction with community-based organizations around the city. Find a project and sign up at the United Way of King County’s website.
