Beth Kalikoff, an associate professor in the University of Washington Tacoma Interdisciplinary Arts program, has been named director of the Center for Advancement of Learning and Teaching.

Beth Kalikoff, an associate professor in the University of Washington Tacoma Interdisciplinary Arts program, has accepted the position as director of the Center for Advancement of Learning and Teaching.

The Center for Advancement of Learning and Teaching is a collaborative effort of the Graduate School, Undergraduate Academic Affairs and the University Libraries. The new center will combine the work of the Center for Instructional Development and Research, the UW Teaching Academy, and a variety of other programs, including the Libraries’ superb instructional programs.

While at UW Tacoma, Kalikoff created two campus-wide programs, the Writing Center and the General Education Center; and this spring she received the Chancellor’s Leadership Award for her role in UW Tacoma’s rebirth as a four-year institution. She also received the UW Tacoma Distinguished Teaching Award in 2004.

Kalikoff has a passion for teaching all students from first generation college students to recent high school graduates to adult learners. Her scholarship focuses on the history and politics of assessment and 21st-century cultural issues surrounding academic integrity. In addition, she is a critic and mystery writer. We welcome her leadership, experience in building cross-campus programs, and expertise in teaching and learning.
