Anthropology students and Pike Place Senior Center members connect over oral histories

Undergraduate Academic Affairs

The Carlson Leadership and Public Service Center connects UW classes with community-based organizations so students experience first-hand what they are learning about and so organizations benefit from student service.

“Hello in There” looks at Holly Barker’s anthropology class, matched with the Pike Place Senior Center, in which students gained experience in qualitative research methods. The outcome was a reciprocal learning experience for both students and members of the senior center.

“Hello in There” shows how connections between UW students and the community are made through service learning.
