Teaching student veterans: Resources for instructors

Are you looking for resources to help you support student veterans in your class?

  • Listen to student veterans’ stories about their experience in UW classrooms.
  • Explore the resources on this page to learn about classroom practices, about military life and transitioning to civilian life, and about campus resources for instructors.
  • Participate in the the annual Including All Students: Teaching Student Veterans workshop held every November as a part of Veterans Appreciation Week. This workshop is co-organized by the CTL and the Veterans Center, and is open to instructors, students, staff and the community.

A snapshot of student veterans on campus

  • Veterans are enrolled in 220 majors
  • Forty percent of student veterans are graduate students
  • Eighty percent of student veterans are older than age 25
  • Washington state anticipates a growing number of student veterans as they return from service
