Established in 2000, the Collegium offers faculty, particularly those who teach larges classes, an opportunity to come together and discuss challenges they face and improvements they would like to implement in their teaching.
Participants of the Collegium attend workshops and learning sessions and actively engage in open conversations. In addition to practical issues of classroom management and supervision of teaching assistants, we explore active learning strategies, technology, and diversity as they relate to large class instruction. Each faculty participant comes with a teaching issue or challenge that he or she would like to address. Throughout the Collegium, faculty are encouraged to think about and articulate how the various sessions come to bear on their own teaching concerns.
The next Collegium will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2012.
Eligibility and Application
All instructional faculty are encouraged to apply. However, priority will be given to tenure-track faculty and full-time lecturers whose class size is considered “large” in their discipline. Interested individuals are required to complete the online registration form. Confirmation of your registration will be sent via email.
Registration
We encourage faculty to register early and for as many sessions as they find useful. However, seating is limited and applications will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Your name will be automatically added to a waiting list should your confirmation indicate that the Collegium has reached capacity. A UW NetID is needed to access and complete the online form. Hard copy registrations will not be accepted.
Location
The Collegium will be held at the Center for Urban Horticulture, which is east of main campus.

If your department is interested in hosting a Collegium, please contact Christine Sugatan. We will work with you to create a half or full day Collegium. The result is an enriching experience tailored to your department’s needs.
