Nomination process & timeline

Each year the University of Washington honors several faculty members and graduate student instructors for their work with students. Recipients are chosen based on a variety of criteria, including but not limited to:

  • Mastery of the subject matter
  • Ability to engage students both within and outside of the classroom
  • Innovations in course and curriculum design

Nomination process

Step 1: Submit an online nomination form

The Teaching Award Selection Committee accepts nominations for the Distinguished Teaching Award, Distinguished Teaching Award for Innovation with Technology, and the Excellence in Teaching Award every November.  Please see the timeline below for exact dates.

Students, staff and faculty members are encouraged to nominate current UW faculty, lecturers, instructors, and graduate student instructors for a teaching award.

Step 2: Award nominees are notified

Teaching Award nominees are notified by email and publicly listed on CTL’s teaching award nominees page in mid-December. See the timeline below for exact dates.

Step 3: Nominees submit supporting materials

Teaching award nominees must submit a complete package of supporting materials by mid-January. Please see the timeline below for exact dates.

2018-19 Timeline

  • October 15 – November 26, 2018: Teaching Award Committee accepts online nominations for the 2019 DTA, DTA-I and ETA awards.
  • December 5, 2018: Nominees are notified by email.
  • December 7, 2018: Nominees are publicly listed on CTL’s teaching award nominees page.
  • December 5, 2018 – January 16, 2019: Complete nomination packages are due by January 16 at 12:00 p.m.  For instructions see: How to submit supporting materials.
  • Spring quarter 2019: Award recipients are publicly listed on CTL’s award recipients page.
