Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Info Session

Campus Application Deadline, Tuesday, November 4, 2008
The Goldwater Foundation awards undergraduate scholarships to outstanding students with demonstrated potential for and commitment to careers in mathematics, the national sciences, or engineering. The one and two year scholarship covers the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year.
Infomation sessions provides students with essential information needed to determine interest, eligibility and suitability for these competitive scholarship programs. Sessions will also contain information about the campus application process and the assistance that students will receive if selected as the campus nominee.

Beinecke Scholarship Information Session
-
Through the Beinecke Scholarship Program, 20 to 22 college juniors of exceptional ability and achievement will be chosen this year to receive up to $34,000 for the first two years of graduate school. The UW is able to nominate one student per year for this award. Applicants will be considered for superior strength of character, intellectual ability, and sense of purpose. They must give evidence of creativity and leadership, and are expected to have well-formulated, although not necessarily immutable, ideas about the direction of future studies and subsequent careers. There should be evidence that a nominee's financial circumstances warrant assistance and that a Beinecke Scholarship will encourage pursuit of a program of graduate education most likely to fulfill the individual's potential.
Information sessions provide students with essential information needed to determine interest, eligibility and suitability for these competitive scholarship programs. Sessions will also contain information about the campus application process and the assistance that students will receive if selected as the campus nominee.

This is a rare opportunity to meet with representatives from the Institute of International Education (IIE) Boren Scholarships and Fellowships staff and the Fulbright U.S. Student Program staff. They will be at the UW campus in Seattle to provide an overview of these scholarship opportunities for study, research and teaching English abroad, information about preparing competitive applications, and answer questions. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to attend.

Harry S. Truman and Morris K. Udall Scholarship Information Sessions

The Harry S. Truman and Morris K. Udall Scholarships look to support students currently actively engaged in leadership activities on campuses and/or in their communities.
The Truman Scholarship awards students who are juniors or seniors with one year of undergraduate work left to complete beginning the fall of 2009. The scholarship is awarded to students who wish to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in government or elsewhere in public service. Annyally 75-85 awards are made nationwide. The Udall Scholarship awards undergraduate scholarships of up to $5000. Selected students must have strong commitment to improving or preserving the environment; or a strong commitment to health care or tribal public policy and potential for significant future contribution in his or her chosen field. Merage Foundation for the American Dream Fellowship Information Sessions
-
Campus Application Deadline, Tuesday, October 28, 2008
Students applying for the Merage Fellows Program must be immigrants to the United States. They must either have become a citizen since coming to the United States or hold a Permanent Resident Card (Green Card). Students who are not yet citizens must indicate their intention to become a United States citizen.
University nominees must be seniors graduating by June 2009. Nominees must illustrate 1) a solid academi record indicated by a minimum of a 3.6 GPA, 2) a clear track record of leadership, 3) a commitment to hard work and excellence, 4) creativity and initiative, and 5) consistent ethical behavior.
The Merage Fellows informaton sessions provide students with essential information needed to determine interest, eligibility and suitability for these competitive scholarship programs. Sessions will also contain informaiton about the campus application process and the assistance that students will receive if selected as the campus nominee.

National Geographic Young Explorers Grants Workshop

Applicant Information Sessions and Project Workshops
Enhancing its efforts to foster the next generation of researchers, explorers, and conservationists, National Geographic now provides seed grants to individuals between the ages of 18 and 25 in the fields it has a rich history of supporting. Young Explorers grants provide the opportunity for many recipients to pursue their first experiences in the field. The Saturday workshops will introduce National Geographic Young Explorer grantees, explorers, conservationists, and researchers, to students interested in pursuing grants from National Geographic to support their research or project.

The UK + Ireland Scholarship application process provide students with the opportunity to present their qualifications for the campus nomination for scholarships that support graduate studies at colleges and universities in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. These scholarships are the Churchill, the Marshall, The Mitchell and the Rhodes. The Gates Cambridge does not require a cmapus endorsement or nomination; however, notifying the Office of your intentions to apply allows us to connect you with resources and to support the development of a competitive application.
