Where to go for information on traveling abroad:
- There are new UW policies governing international travel, which became effective January 1, 2011. Collectively, these policies, designed to improve the safety and security of all UW travelers who are overseas on official university activities, make up the UW's Global Emergency. Management Plan:- A new International Emergency Telephone Line is now available for emergencies posing an immediate risk to the safety and/or security of UW travelers overseas on official UW business, monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the University of Washington Police. If you are in a genuine emergency overseas, please call 00-1-206-632-0153. Additional information is available at the travel emergency webpage of the Office of Global Affairs at http://www.washington.edu/globalaffairs/emergency/.
- All UW students traveling on study abroad programs through International Programs and Exchanges (IP&E) are now required to sign up for the mandatory UW Study Abroad Insurance program through our chosen provider, HTH, or to apply for a waiver if they can demonstrate that they have equivalent personal insurance coverage for study abroad. We are currently exploring how to expand this requirement to include all UW study abroad students.
- A new UW Travel Registry will allow us to track the locations and contact information of UW students overseas. We hope to make the Travel Registry available to other members of the UW community on a voluntary basis in the near future.
