Eleanor Davis Pinkham Scholarship

This award is made in honor of Eleanor Davis Pinkham, a Roosevelt High School graduate who went on to graduate from the University of Washington.  Each year, the Eleanor Davis Pinkham Scholarship is awarded to a Roosevelt High School graduate entering as a first year student at the University of Washington.

History

The purpose of the Eleanor Davis Pinkham Scholarship is to recognize an academically talented Roosevelt High School senior and to provide financial assistance during his or her first year at the University of Washington.  This scholarship is given in honor of Eleanor Davis Pinkham, a 1926 graduate of Roosevelt High School.  Eleanor studied philosophy at the University of Washington and graduated in 1931.  She went on to become recognized as an accomplished theater administrator at a time when few women were employed in this field.  She worked with renowned agent L.E. Behymer and then joined the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera, where she stayed for 34 years, retiring as the managing director in 1974.

Eligibility

The scholarship will be awarded to a Roosevelt High School graduate entering the University of Washington as a freshman. Selection will be based on the student's academic achievement and extracurricular involvement at Roosevelt High School, and on financial need.

Procedure

Application includes:
  • a completed application form,
  • a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or other school administrator,
  • three brief statements describing involvement in extracurricular activities, academic achievements/goals, and financial need,
  • and a copy of high school transcript.
