Martin Achievement Scholarship Program

Description

The Martin Family Foundation Established the Martin Achievement Scholarship program to fund students who have demonstrated signs of exceptional ability in art, humanities, music, science, and/or leadership at one of the fifteen community colleges located around the Puget Sound region. The program will select Martin Achievement Scholars early in their community college career and will fund, encourage and support their study and eventual transfer to the University of Washington-Seattle Campus.

Eligibility

Applicants must be Washington State residents who are U.S. citizens or resident aliens who intend to become U.S. citizens. The award will depend on successful admission to the University of Washington as a matriculated student. Eligible students must:
  • Be currently enrolled students at  Bellevue, Cascadia, Edmonds , Everett , Grays Harbor, Green River, Highline, North Seattle, Olympic, Penninsula, Pierce, Seattle Central, Shoreline, South Seattle or Tacoma Community College pursuing their first baccalaureate degree
  • Have earned a minimum of 15 community college transfer credits
  • Have demonstrated signs of exceptional ability in science, humanities, music, art, and/or leadership.
  • Applicants for the Martin Achievement should not plan on transferring to the UW prior to summer 2009.

Procedure

Applicants must complete and submit the 2008 application for the Martin Achievement Scholarship along with the following materials:
  • Two letters of recommendation. At least one letter must be from a faculty member who has taught the candidate, which addresses intellectual curiosity, academic potential, and character.
  • Currrent transcripts from all community colleges/universities that you have attended. They can be unofficial copies; please do not send a web copy of your transcript.
