Description
The Martin Family Foundation established the Martin Achievement Scholarship program to fund students who have demonstrated signs of exceptional ability in art, humanities, music, science, and/or leadership at one of the fifteen community colleges located around the Puget Sound region. The program will select Martin Achievement Scholars early in their community college career and will fund, encourage and support their study and eventual transfer to the University of Washington-Seattle Campus.
Martin Achievement Scholars may receive $5,000 in support for their second year in community college and up to $10,000 per year for three years at UW. Awarded on a competitive basis, the Martin Achievement Scholarship recognizes promise and accomplishment in academics, leadership, or contributions to the community.
Eligibility
Applicants must be Washington State residents who are U.S. citizens or resident aliens who intend to become U.S. citizens. The award will depend on successful admission to the University of Washington as a matriculated student. Eligible students must:- Be currently enrolled students at Bellevue, Cascadia, Edmonds , Everett , Grays Harbor, Green River, Highline, North Seattle, Olympic, Penninsula, Pierce, Seattle Central, Shoreline, South Seattle or Tacoma Community College pursuing their first baccalaureate degree
- Have earned a minimum of 15 community college transfer credits
- Have demonstrated signs of exceptional ability in science, humanities, music, art, and/or leadership.
- Applicants for the 2012 Martin Achievement should not plan to transfer to the UW-Seattle prior to the summer 2013.

Procedure
The Martin Scholarship applications will be available until Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 11:30 p.m. You may access the application here
Applicants interested in applying for the Martin Achievement Scholarship will be asked to submit the following materials:
- a completed online application
- an unofficial copy of most current transcript, and
- two letters of recommendation; at least one must be written by a faculty member addressing the candidate's intellectual curiosity and potential. The other can be written by someone able to address the candidate's capabilities and volunteer/community involvement.
