Description

The Northwest Danish Foundation awards $15,000 in scholarships each year. Applicants must be of Danish descent or marriede to someone of Danish descent, who actively participate in the Danish community and/or show interest in perpetuating their Danish heritage. Consideration will also be given to those of non-Danish descent who have shown exceptional involvement in the Danish community. Applications require an educational reference, a character reference, and a Danish community reference, as well as personal information, transcripts and two essays.

Eligibility

Granting of Scholarship Funds Shall be:
  • To those who are of Danish descent or married to someone of Danish descent, who actively participate in the Danish community and/or show an interest in perpetuating their Danish heritage. Consideration will also be given to those of non-Danish descent who have shown exceptional involvement in the Danish community.
  • To those who reside in the states of Oregon or Washington
  • For use in seeking academic degrees, vocational degrees, or re-training for employment possibilities
  • For use in training for legitimate artistic careers that enrich and/or entertain
  • For use in participating in Danish activities such as language lessons, folk dancing, literary symposiums, or any other program designated for advancement of the Danish culture
  • With preference given to applicants who actively participate in the Danish community and show an interest in perpetuating their Danish heritage
Grants will be awarded upon proof of enrollment in school. All scholarship winners must be members of NABJ before the grants are awarded.

Procedure

A complete application package encloses the following items:
  • Official transcripts, either high school or college, whichever is applicable.
  • A statement of your educational intent and career goals. Please limit to one page or less.
  • If applying for a scholarship other than for college or university, please describe this program in full. Please limit to one page or less.
  • Describe your personal interest in your Danish heritage, how it has affected your life up to now, and how you feel it will influence the circumstances of your future. Please limit to one page or less.
