Description

The ChairScholars Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1992 by Alicia and Hugo Keim as a means to provide college or vocational school educations for children with severe physical challenges. At first, there was a National Program which chose students for college throughout the United States.

Eligibility

  • The student must be physically challenged but does not have to be in a wheelchair.
  • Must have serious financial difficulties.
  • Could not go to college without this financial aid!
  • Must have a history of satisfactory academic performance in the past. At least a B+ average must be proven.
  • Must be a high school senior or college freshman. No graduate students can be considered.
  • The applicant must show some form of major community service or social contribution in the past.
  • No graduate study past four years of college can be funded.
  • The physical challenge must be "significant." No minor disability will be considered.
  • Must be under the age of 21. No one over 21 years of age will be considered.

Procedure

Application is available online on the ChairScholars Foundation, Inc. website.

Please include a 300-500 word essay outlining how you became physically challenged, how your situation has affected you and your family and also your goals and aspirations for the future. Be sure to include your Parent's or Guardian's Federal income tax return from last year. If you are on SSI or some other form of aid you must inform us. Send your SAT and ACT scores and your email address. If you have obtained any other scholarships already you MUST inform that fact.

Also include a photo, three letters of recommendation, your high school transcript and any other honors or achievements you may have earned.
