Description
The American Institute of Architects and its Southwest Washington chapter offer up to two scholarships of $2000 each to aid 4th and 5th year students pursuing Masters of Architecture degrees from either UW or WSU and have graduated from high school in Pierce, Thurston, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Wahkiakum, Skamania, and Grays Harbor Counties. If no entry is deemed satisfactory, we retain the right to not award a scholarship.
Eligibility
4th or 5th year students pursuing their Masters in Architecture currently attending either WSU or UW and who attended high school in Pierce, Thurston, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Skamania, Wahkiakum or Grays Harbor Counties in Washington State.Procedure
The selection will be based upon the student's potential as illustrated by the submittal record of previous academic and non-academic success and a narrative describing why they feel a career in Architecture is right for them, and their career plans upon graduation.
SUBMITTAL MATERIAL:
- Transcript through the winter quarter of 2008 from each institution attended since high school and statement of academic ranking and GPA.
- Name of high school attended.
- Resume, including non-academic achievements and interests.
- Short letters of recommendation from Teachers and/or Counselors. Two minimum.
- An essay of not more than 250 words that describes what made you decide to pursue a career in Architecture and what you hope to accomplish in doing so.
- Portfolio of artwork, photographs or other work that helps to illustrate talent. This material will be returned if a self-addressed envelope is provided.
Submittal material to be postmarked no later than May 9, 2008. Send to AIA Southwest Washington at 1201 Pacific Ave., Suite C-4, Tacoma, WA 98402.

Winners will be invited to attend a Southwest Washington AIA meeting to be presented with the scholarship. A press release will be sent to local media and the students' schools announcing the winners. Winners will be asked to submit a photo suitable for publishing on the local and national website.
Scholarships are awarded for a full academic year beginning Fall 2008. The award may not be used retroactively, deferred for later use, used for a partial year or transferred to another individual.
