Ida McRae, a UW sophomore majoring in Latin American Studies, was named a recipient of a 2009 Institute for International Public Policy Fellowship (IIPP). The IIPP selects outstanding young women and men from across the United States who are interested in pursuing careers in international affairs and foreign service. McRae is one of 15 national applicants selected for the 15th Cohort of the IIPP Fellows. Each IIPP Fellow receives scholarships and services totaling nearly $100,000 over a five-year period. This includes study abroad opportunities, language institutes, international internships, and two-year matching funds for graduate school. McRae is the 12th UW student selected as an IIPP Fellow.
The Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards (OMSFA) helps UW undergraduates develop the tools and personal insights necessary to match their goals with local and national merit-based scholarship opportunities. National scholarship opportunities include the Fulbright, Goldwater, Marshall, Rhodes, Truman, and many others.
At OMSFA, we:
- Mentor students through an intense process that results in competitive applications for national scholarships;
- Support students by offering resources, advising, and individual feedback through the scholarship process;
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and support potential student scholars;
- Provide information and resources to students via workshops, fairs, web pages, and one-on-one assistance; and
- Maintain a database of merit-based scholarships available to eligible UW undergraduates.
