Instructions for MyUW/Web Registration Demonstration

This demonstration of MyUW and web registration uses of a series of static websites that look like real MyUW and web registration websites. You don't actually have to type in the information requested on each screen, although if you're demonstrating to a student you might want to just so they don't get confused. In most places, you can move to the next screen in the demonstration just by clicking on the Submit or Update button, whether or not you've entered the information requested.

The main topics of the demonstration:

The directions look long but the whole demo is actually quite self-explanatory. We recommend that you print the instructions so you can follow them as you go through the demonstration.

  1. Start at http://www.washington.edu/students/ugrad/advising/demo/myuw1.html

Notice the *SAMPLE* in the upper right-hand corner. This appears on all the static websites.

  2. A student would click on the Login with your UW NetID bar and login. You can just click on the box, then click on the Log in box on the next screen.
  3. You're now in MyUW's Front Page. Jane Sample Student's summer class schedule is there, along with her tuition balance. Scroll down and you'll see that there's lots of stuff on the Front Page. Notice the tabs along the top.
  4. Click on the Student Info tab. Again, scroll down and you'll see lots of nice stuff. All the links work, if you want to use any of them.
  5. Find the Personal Services section and click on Registration.
  6. You're now in the web registration demo. For the rest of the demo there are instructions in a lavender box on each website where you need to do something complicated.
  7. The first registration step each quarter is always an address check. Click on Change of Address to see how to enter an address change, but don't actually do one. Click the Back arrow to get back to the Registration website.
  8. The second registration step is the Insurance/Optional Charges. This is required each quarter. Click on the link.
  9. Following the directions in the box, select Autumn 2001 Student-only insurance. Scroll down and click yes on the other options. Click the Submit box at the bottom.
  10. The confirmation screen comes up. Scroll down to check the entries. Then to continue on to registration, click on Return to Registration at the top. Be sure to point this out-students can get lost at this point when they're on their own.
  11. Now you're ready to register for courses. Follow the instructions in the lavender box. Enter the SLNs and submit the request.
  12. Go over the errors. Note that a submission must be completely clean. Erase the SLNs and enter new ones as instructed and submit the new request.
  13. Now we have a class schedule. Click on Visual Schedule and Textbooks to demonstrate those options.
  14. Now demo the Schedule Finder. Click on it in the Registration Resources box.
  15. This is another static demonstration. Following the directions in the box enter the courses, check no classes after 4:30, and check to exclude entry code sections.
  16. Note the Registration button but don't click on it-it doesn't work in the demo. Students can "lock in" courses in the schedule finder-if they're already registered in a course they want to keep, for example, they should enter the course and its section letters as part of their request.
  17. Close down this window and you'll be back in web registration.
  18. Note the Personal Services box across the top of the screen-Personal Services is where students request a DARS audit, get their grades, sign up for Direct Deposit, check their tuition balance, etc.
