IN EXPLORING LARGE-SCALE EFFORTS
TO INTENTIONALLY MANIPULATE
ECOSYSTEMS AND EARTH-SYSTEM
PROCESSES TO REMOVE CARBON
DIOXIDE FROM THE ATMOSPHERE TO
OFFSET ANTHROPOGENIC GREENHOUSE
GAS EMISSIONS. WE WILL EXPLORE A
WIDE RANGE OF LAND-BASED AND
MARINE STRATEGIES THAT HOLD
PROMISE TO SEQUESTER CARBON AT A
MEANINGFUL SCALE. THIS INCLUDES,
BUT NOT LIMITED TO, REFORESTATION
AND AFFORESTATION, ECOSYSTEM
RESTORATION, REGENERATIVE
AGRICULTURE, OCEAN FERTILIZATION,
BLUE CARBON SEQUESTRATION, AND
ENHANCED WEATHERING. WE WILL SEEK
TO INCREASE OUR COLLECTIVE
UNDERSTANDING OF THE IMPACTS OF
CARBON DIOXIDE REMOVAL SCHEMES ON
BIODIVERSITY AND ECOSYSTEM SERVICES
& TO CROSSWALK THE SCIENCE WITH
SOCIETAL CONCERNS INCLUDING ETHICS,
GOVERNANCE, AND SUSTAINABLE
