Accept your Parent PLUS award through the Office of Student
Financial Aid, which will generate a promissory note that will be
mailed to you (the student).
All new Parent PLUS loan borrowers must sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN). The UW is now accepting electronic signatures for Parent PLUS loan promissory notes completed on the Direct Loans Master Promissory Note web page at www.dlenote.ed.gov.
If the parent is a new borrower (has not borrowed from the federal PLUS loan program before), or borrowed last year with an Endorser, sign an MPN electronically at www.dlenote.ed.gov.
The UW will request a credit check from the Direct Loan Servicer (which can take up to 15 days to receive.)
If the credit check is approved, the loan will be ready for disbursement to the parent borrower (or directly to the student, if authorized by the parent borrower) once the academic quarter begins.
How can my parent get help when signing the promissory e-MPN?
For help with any problems in signing the electronic Master Promissory Note, contact Applicant Services at (800) 557-7394.
Which parent should sign the promissory note?
If this is your first Parent PLUS loan, either parent may be the borrower and sign the Master Promissory Note (MPN) at www.dlenote.ed.gov.
If your parent borrowed a Parent PLUS loan last year, a new MPN is usually not required (see Note below). The continuing parent borrower must only complete and sign the loan application form verifying the data on record, and indicating the loan amount requested for the current year. This form will be mailed to you by the Student Fiscal Services Office.
Note: If your parent borrowed a Parent PLUS loan last year with an Endorser, a new promissory note for the current year is required. This may be signed at www.dlenote.ed.gov.
A different parent is borrowing a Parent PLUS for me this year - what do they sign?
If a different parent is borrowing this year (for the first time), the new parent must sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN). This can be done electronically at www.dlenote.ed.gov.
The new parent must also complete the PLUS Application Letter. Either use the one received in the mail and correct the parent information with the new borrower’s information, or request a blank form by contacting Student Fiscal Services via live chat.
I didn't receive a PLUS application letter in the mail - how do I get one?
If you have an award for a Parent PLUS loan that you can see on MyUW and haven't received a PLUS application letter in the mail, request one from Student Fiscal Services via live chat.
Where do I return the PLUS application letter?
You will receive a return envelope with the mailing of your application letter, addressed to Student Fiscal Services, Box 355870, Seattle, WA 98195-5870
To fax your application, use 206-685-2942
I prefer to sign a Master Promissory Note on paper – can I do this?
If you prefer to sign a paper MPN, request one from the Student Fiscal Services Office via live chat.
In your request, please include your student’s full name, student number or SSN, and your mailing address.
A paper note will be mailed to you within approximately five working days.
How do I request a change in my Parent PLUS award, or cancel it?
What happens if my parent borrower doesn't pass the credit check?
If the credit check is not approved, the parent borrower will be notified directly by the Direct Loan Servicer, and given instructions and paperwork for re-applying with a co-signer (endorser).
For further information or details, please call the Direct Loan Applicant Services: 1-800-557-7394.
Who should my parent borrower contact about Endorser status or an appeal?

How do I receive my loan funds?
Once the PLUS loan application letter, the signed promissory note and the approved credit check have been received, the loan will be ready for disbursement (starting on the first day of the academic quarter or after).
If the parent borrower has authorized disbursement of the loan directly to the student, the funds will be applied to eligible charges on the tuition account first, with any remaining funds disbursed directly to the student. Students expecting to receive financial aid should sign up for direct deposit.
If the parent borrower has not authorized disbursement of the loan directly to the student, the loan proceeds will first pay all eligible charges on the student's tuition account, and the Student Fiscal Services Office will print and mail a check to the parent borrower for any remaining funds.
How does my parent borrower repay the PLUS loan?
Where are Parent PLUS loans repaid?
PLUS loans are repaid directly to the Direct Loan Servicer. There are several payment plan options from which the borrower may choose.
