Exit Counseling

When you took out a student loan, you made a very serious legal agreement. You can find the content of that agreement on your promissory note. The most important part of it is that you agreed to repay your loan.

The University of Washington offers exit counseling to students because we want you to enter the repayment phase of your student loan with all of the information that you need to manage your account successfully.

The purpose of exit counseling is to:

The Student Fiscal Services Office offers both in-person and online exit counseling for campus-based student loans: Federal Perkins Loans, Health Profession Loans, Nursing Loans and Long-term Institutional Loans.

Other lenders also offer online counseling and information. Online Student Loan Counseling enables you to complete the student loan exit counseling requirements anytime, anywhere.

If you borrowed from a Health Profession or Nursing Loan Program, the federal government requires that you complete student loan exit counseling prior to graduating, leaving school or dropping below at least half-time attendance. This exit counseling is designed to help you understand student loan terms as well as your rights and obligations as a student loan borrower.
