Withdrawals and Refunds for Aid Recipients

If you are a financial aid recipient and withdraw from all your classes, your refund of University charges will be returned to the financial aid programs. The amount depends upon when you withdraw and whether you are in your first quarter of attendance at the University.

If you are a first-quarter student, the amount to be refunded will be based on how many weeks in the quarter you attended. Your refund will be based on the following percentages and the week of your withdrawal.

  Academic Quarter
  Autumn, Winter, Spring Summer
First seven days 100% 100%
Second week 80% 70%
Third week 70% 60%
Fourth week 60% 50%
Fifth week 50% 40%
Sixth week 50% 0%
Seventh week 40% 0%
Eight week and beyond 0% 0%

If you are a continuing student, your refund will be based on when you withdraw within the quarter. Generally you will receive 100% if you withdraw within the first seven days of the quarter and 50% if you withdraw between the 8th and 30th day of the quarter (8th and 21st day for summer quarter). Your refund may be greater based on your withdrawal date and the following chart:

Within first seven days of quarter 100%
Within first 10% of quarter 90%
Within 11% to 25% of quarter 50%
Within 26% to 50% of quarter 25%
51% or greater % of quarter 0%

The refund of University charges will be credited to your aid programs in the following order up to the amount you received for that quarter: Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford/Ford Loan, Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford/Ford Loan, Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, other Title IV aid programs, Washington State Need Grant, institutional aid, private scholarships. If any refund remains after crediting these accounts, the balance will be refunded to you.

Please be aware that if you withdraw from all classes within the first 30 days of the quarter (first three weeks of summer quarter), you may owe immediate repayment of aid you received (except Direct Loans which are payable according to the terms of the promissory note). Contact the Office of Student Financial Aid, (206) 543-6101, if you have any questions.

Excludes Dentistry, Law and Medicine professional students.
