Introduction to Business

Introduces the economic environment and global context for business, as well as key functional areas of business including management, marketing, accounting, and finance. Develops experience in applying knowledge and making business decisions in a team environment through computer simulation. Emphasizes interpersonal, technical, and problem solving skills.

Class description

The course addresses basic economics, business start up, pricing and advertising, accounting and finance, hiring and managing people, ethics and social responsibility, strategies for success, and doing business globally.

General method of instruction

Lecture, discussion, in-class projects, team decision making for your business in the simulation

Recommended preparation

No prior courses needed. Requires good reading skills, ability to focus during discussions in class, paying attention to current events in business, and good people skills to work on a team.
