The student participates in current urologic research projects under supervision of full-time staff. Certain specific problems may be elected by the student. Elective for medical students.
Class description
Training in research methods and research in the Male Fertility Lab. Research may be lab work or records analysis.
Student learning goals
Hypothesis building and the scientific method
Experimental design, data collection and analysis.
Basic laboratory skills, and advanced testing protocols if required.
Basic knowledge of reproduction, focusing on human.
Specific knowledge of sperm production, maturation, and function related to infertility and fertilization.
General method of instruction
One-to-one discussions with professor and lab staff. Outside readings. Hands-on practice of lab techniques and data analysis, with support from the lab. Independent study and research.
Recommended preparation
Interest in biology. Biology or chemistry lab courses recommended.
Class assignments and grading
Reading assignments tailored to student's interest.
Final paper written in scientific journal format.
