Class description
This multi-disciplinary course focuses upon the health needs and problems of traditionally un-served and underserved populations in our multicultural society. It is an experiential course devoted to the systematic analysis of the health needs, experiences, and unique coping strategies employed by members of these populations. The patterned responses of health care institutions and professionals to these populations will also be examined to identify both barriers to, and facilitators of, appropriate care. Professional roles are explored that currently exist, as well as ones that can be created for the enhancement of service delivery to members of this client population.
Seven schools have collaborated in developing this course. They include Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Nutritional Sciences, and Social Work.
