Class description
Science/engineering graduate students learn to communicate effectively about their research by examining the principles and practice of preparing research manuscripts, articles, abstracts, and oral presentations. The scientific publication process is examined in detail; issues of style, organization, and ethics are reviewed. Students draft, critique, revise their own manuscripts, and learn to review the manuscripts of others.

Participants will be working on their scientific/engineering research and will begin drafting an article about their results.
Class assignments and grading
Several assignments designed to help students optimize the quality of the final draft--among them, a periodical analysis; a 3-page description of the research for a non-specialist technical audience; various readings from the assigned text and handouts, and a grammar and style review.
