Student learning goals

General method of instruction

The course design is heavily weighted toward class lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. There is a required textbook and a very interesting interactive CD-ROM-based application.

Recommended preparation

No specific preparation is required. This course is designed as a survey of the natural sciences, including neuroscience, psychology, sound physics, and anatomy. Speech communication provides a focus for examining these general topics.

Class assignments and grading

Weekly assignments are used to help students keep up with coursework. These assignments may include quizzes, homework assignments, or computer-based assignments.

Grades are assigned primarily on the basis of performance on three equally weighted, non-comprehensive examinations. Homework assignments count for 25% of the final grade.

The information above is intended to be helpful in choosing courses. Because the instructor may further develop his/her plans for this course, its characteristics are subject to change without notice. In most cases, the official course syllabus will be distributed on the first day of class.
